SHS Boys Soccer
Moving forward to Fall 2009

History

SHS Boys Soccer has had continuous success throughout the existence of the school.  Consistently one of the top programs in New Hampshire, our teams have reached the NH Class I State Championship Final on 4 occasions, coming away victorious in 1995 & 1996.  More recently we have reached the Semi-Final in 2007, 05, 01, and 2000.  Quarterfinalist status 94, 99, 2002, 03, 04, and 06.  Few other teams have such a high level competitive history.

Dozens of our soccer players have gone on to success in college and a few even into the professional ranks. Their collective passion for the game and strong work ethic has left a tremendous legacy.

Keys to our success over the years include a tremendous local soccer club scene that has grown from the prominent Amherst Soccer Club in the early years, including Hampshire Football Club and their premier team efforts.  Nashua World Cup, several Manchester clubs, Bedford Classics have contributed significantly to the training of Amherst and Mont Vernon soccer athletes.  More recently, Souhegan Valley United, the New Hampshire Phantoms youth system, and Seacoast United developed many top level players with their tremendous coaches and programs.  All of these clubs have contributed to the rich SHS competitive legacy with high quality training and competitive opportunities for young players.

One Response to “History”

  1. It was an incredible playoff run in 2007, coming from the #11 seed and proceeding to upset the #6, then the #3 to advance to the Semi-Final. One opposing coach commented at the beginning of the tournament that we were “the most dangerous #11 seed in the history of this tournament.”

After playing the toughest schedule in Class I Soccer, playing each of the top 4 teams at least once, and all of the top 8, the playoff run happened at all away venues. Collectively, the team never felt outclassed in any match this season, and was fully prepared to reach for the stars in the final competitions.
